How often should PAT testing be carried out?

PAT testing frequency depends on the type of environment and how often the equipment is used, but general guidelines are:

• Offices / Low-risk environments: Every 2–4 years
• Workshops, factories, construction sites / High-risk environments: Every 6–12 months
• Rental properties or public-facing areas: Annually or as recommended by risk assessment

Even if equipment is rarely used, it should still be inspected regularly, because worn cables, accidental damage, or faults can develop over time.
